Dominion Equine Welfare Activities

Dominion Equine Welfare was formed in 2012 and was originally known as Virginia Equine Welfare Group. The three co-founders joined forces with the goal of working towards ending the slaughter of horses in the United States. In 2014 the organization was granted non-profit status and is now a 501c3. Over the past four years Dominion Equine Welfare has shared information with thousands of people in Northern Virginia concerning the slaughter and welfare of horses and the plight of wild horses and burros in the United States. The Dominion Equine Welfare tent with banner, posters, and tables filled with informative flyers and pamphlets has been seen at festivals, fairs, expos and equestrian events throughout Northern Virginia.

Dominion Equine Welfare has had informational meetings with dozens of State legislators in Richmond and their home districts. They have also met with Federal legislators and their aids in Washington, D.C. numerous times. The organization presented hundreds of signatures from Virginia residents to Virginia’s senators and their congress people in support of the bill to end horse slaughter.

Dominion Equine Welfare has attended equine symposiums in Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, Kentucky and Texas to network, share and learn from like-minded groups.

The group also fosters a limited number of at risk horses and donates supplies and services to nearby horse rescues.

Dominion Equine Welfare is committed to helping provide a lifetime safety net for all equines.
